Can a freestanding wine cooler go under a worktop?

Only if it's front-venting. Rear-venting freestanding models need space around them and overheat if boxed in.

What temperature for wine?

Store wine at around 10 to 14°C. Dual-zone coolers let you serve whites cooler and reds a little warmer.
