Managed or unmanaged switch?
Unmanaged switches just work, which suits small offices. Managed switches add VLANs, monitoring and traffic control, which you need to separate guest, staff and phone traffic.
What is PoE and do we need it?
Power over Ethernet sends power down the network cable, so access points, IP phones and cameras need no separate socket. Check the switch's total PoE budget covers every device you plan to power.
How many access points do we need?
It depends on walls, floors and device numbers more than floor area. As a rough guide, plan one per open-plan area or every few rooms, and survey larger sites before buying.
