Measure the opening, not the old door. UK doors come in imperial (1981mm high) and metric (2040mm high) sizes, and the two aren't interchangeable.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between imperial and metric doors?
Imperial doors are 1981mm high and 610 to 838mm wide, the sizes most older UK homes were built to. Metric doors are 2040mm high and 526 to 926mm wide. Match the existing frame; a door can only be trimmed by a few millimetres.
Which doors in an HMO need to be fire doors?
That depends on the layout and the fire risk assessment, but typically doors onto the escape route, such as bedroom and kitchen doors, need to be FD30 with self-closers. Check with your local authority's HMO licensing team before ordering.
What makes a fire door compliant?
The whole assembly, not just the door. An FD30 leaf needs a suitable frame, intumescent strips, three fire-rated hinges and usually a self-closer, all fitted to the manufacturer's instructions.
