Kitchen tap specification by sector
Check the sink's tap holes and the water pressure first. Style comes after.
| Sector | Tap | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rental property & HMOs | Single-lever monobloc mixer | One hole, easy to use and cheap to service |
| Offices & staff kitchens | Boiling water tap | Replaces the kettle and cuts queues at break times |
| Holiday lets | Pull-out spray mixer | Easier to rinse pans and clean the sink at changeover |
| Period & farmhouse kitchens | Bridge or crosshead mixer | Matches a Belfast or ceramic sink |
| Developments | Mixer matched across the scheme | One model and finish simplifies spares and snagging |
Boiling water taps need a tank under the sink and usually an electrical socket in the cupboard. Check the space before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Will the tap fit our sink?
Most modern kitchen mixers need one tap hole of around 35mm. Older sinks may have two holes for pillar taps. Check the sink before choosing, or buy a sink and tap pack.
What water pressure do kitchen taps need?
Check the listing. Many mixers need at least 1 bar, and some high-flow or pull-out taps need more. On a low-pressure gravity system choose a tap rated for low pressure.
Are boiling water taps worth it in an office?
Usually, where a kettle is in constant use. They heat water on demand, free up worktop space and remove the kettle as a trip and scald hazard. Factor in the filter replacement cost.
