Before you order
Most valve problems at fitting come down to one of these.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Pipe entry: angled, straight or corner | Depends where the pipe leaves the floor or wall relative to the radiator tapping |
| Pipe size | Most UK systems use 15mm copper. Microbore (8mm or 10mm) needs matching valves or reducers |
| Control valve and lockshield | One end controls the room, the other balances the system. Most valves are sold as a pair |
| Element wattage and supply | Match the element to the towel rail's output. It needs a fused spur fitted by an electrician |
| Finish | Match the radiator. Chrome, black, white and anthracite are the most common |
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a valve at each end?
Yes. One end takes the control valve, thermostatic or manual, and the other a lockshield, which is set once to balance the system. Most valves are sold as a pair, but check the listing.
Can thermostatic valves go on any radiator?
On most radiators on a wet system, yes. Leave the radiator in the room with the wall thermostat on a manual valve, or the two controls work against each other.
What wattage heating element do we need?
One close to the towel rail's rated output without exceeding it. A bigger element won't make the rail any warmer and can overheat it.
Are smart valves worth it in let property?
Where you pay the energy bills, such as HMOs with bills included or holiday lets, they let you schedule and cap heating room by room. Where tenants pay, standard thermostatic valves are usually enough.
Can you deliver to site?
Yes. We deliver to building sites, six days a week, with pallet delivery for larger orders. See delivery options for access and offloading.
Supplying a build or refurb?
Trade pricing on volume, deliveries to site and a dedicated account manager.
