Before you order a canopy hood
| Check | Why it matters |

| Recess size | Measure the breast or cabinet internally: width, depth and height. |
| Outlet position | Check it against where the duct enters. A top-vented hood in a shallow cabinet may not connect. |
| Hood width | Match or exceed the hob. A recessed unit captures a little less than a chimney hood. |
| Duct diameter | Match the existing duct. A reducer costs performance and adds noise. |
| Controls | Check they are still reachable once the unit is recessed. |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between canopy and integrated hoods?
They overlap. Canopy hoods sit inside a chimney breast or canopy with the underside exposed. Integrated hoods are built into a cabinet, usually behind a door.
Will a canopy hood extract as well as a chimney hood?
Like for like, a recessed unit captures a little less because it sits further back. A telescopic model or going one width wider closes the gap.
Can we fit one where there is no chimney breast?
Yes, if there is a wall cabinet above the hob to house it. Without either, look at chimney hoods.
