New build and change of use work carries minimum extract rates under the Building Regulations. Check the hood's ducted rate, not its boost figure, against your sign-off.
Frequently asked questions
Ducted or recirculating: which should we specify?
Ducted, wherever there is a route outside. It removes moisture as well as smells and needs no consumables. Recirculation is for internal kitchens and commits you to replacing carbon filters periodically.
Can we fit a 150mm hood to 120mm ducting?
With a reducer, yes, but it costs extraction performance and adds noise. If you cannot change the ducting, choose a 120mm outlet instead.
How wide should the hood be?
At least as wide as the hob, and wider if the layout allows, particularly on an island where there is no wall to help contain steam.
Who replaces the filters in let property?
Grease filters are usually dishwasher safe and reasonable to leave with the tenant. Carbon filters in recirculating hoods need replacing rather than cleaning, and that normally sits with the landlord. Keep spares on hand across a portfolio.
